"A multimedia multi
talent: Karin Kuschik talks about her experiences as a radio presenter,
filmmaker and show event host"
|
 |
Her favourite phrase is positive
communication. Karin Kuschik likes to interview eccentric or even
moody guests, putting them at ease and giving them the feeling that
they are being taken seriously. That was her aim when she started
in radio and she has remained true to herself ever since. Her CV reflects
the experiences of a true multi-talent: singing lessons, voice coach,
screenwriter, radio play actress, event host, assistant director,
poet, media coach and, of course, radio presenter. Her unique and
magnificent voice is immediately recognisable to any Taxi driver,
listening to the radio whilst driving around Berlin. After all, she
was the voice of Berlin radio: first on r.s.2, later on Radio B Zwei.
Karin Kuschik is always good company (not just on radio): a charming
narrator with a great sense of humour, refreshingly open-minded and
likeable. To sum it up: a dream radio lady.

"Rise and shine at
1.30 a.m."
|
| |
The alarm rings and it's one thirty in the morning. Anyone able to
think anything besides
"Oh blast! Another night bites the
dust," deserves admiration. Karin Kuschik even manages to be
in a positive frame of mind at this unearthly hour. She grabs a 'lunch
box' filled with fresh carrots, jumps in her newly leased Jeep and
rides to work in a good mood. Three hours to go till the show starts.
When r.s.2 Radio Express goes on air, one third of her working day
has already passed. Karin still remembers her first show. It was shortly
after the privatisation of RIAS 2: "The programme director called
me up on Friday evening and asked whether I could come to work in
a couple of hours to host the 4 till 8 a.m. breakfast show. When he
assured me that I wouldn't be interviewing the foreign minister and
only had o play records and talk to listeners, I said okay."
Right now Karin Kuschik is in seventh heaven: she's newly in love,
she's just back from a diving holiday and has completed her first
screenplay. If she does, by chance, have a bad day ever, there's one
way that listeners can tell: "When I happen to be in a bad mood,
I'm particularly friendly."

"Positive Communications"
|
| |
Only once did Karin Kuschik accept a rose from
a fan and take it home. The rose was given to her by an eight year
old boy. She doesn't really like the fuss that's being made about
her. But the razzmatazz really got underway a year ago, when the r.s.2
"breakfast queen" could be seen smiling from hundreds of
billboards. Now people could put a face to one of the most exciting
voices in Radio. She actually enjoys interviewing difficult or moody
people best: "There ain't no one I haven't gotten through to,"
she enthuses. "I want people to feel good. I don't concentrate
so much on getting ace statements from them." Positive communication
is her favourite phrase. "So many things are expressed in a negative
fashion. I don't say: the sky is cloudless, I say the sun is shining."
Students she will be lecturing to at the Berlin School of Journalism
will soon be able to benefit from this philosophy.

"Woman of the Year"
|
| |
Manuela Probadnik is a fan of radio presenter
Karin Kuschik: "The r.s.2 host is woman of the year, as far as
I'm concerned. Anybody who can espouse such a upbeat mood between
six and ten o'clock in the morning will get the vote from this hardened
late-riser. Getting up at two- thirty a.m., being at work at four,
giving listeners a good feeling at the start of their day and then
working till the afternoon
Anyone who can do that has to be
woman of 1993!".

"A short bio of Express
presenter Karin Kuschik"
|
| |
Sensitive and energetic, sensual and impulsive,
feeling and self-assured: those are a few of the characteristics that
come to mind, when I think of Karin Kuschik. When you get to know
her a little better, you realise that profound compassion, the ability
to love and the belief that one can achieve ones goals, is the combined
driving force behind these qualities. "I simply see things positively,"
she says. It's a state of mind that makes her cut out for the r.s.2
morning show. She has a knack for transporting her good mood to listeners
via the airwaves. The steady rise in fan mail bears witness to this
in an impressive manner.

"Two
talents that complement each other"
|
| |
On April 17th Kim Fischer and Karin Kuschik
were awarded the Fred Jay Prize for 1997. The award ceremony was held
in Munich's Künstlerhaus on Lenbach Square. This year's award
winners have worked together since 1995. This is how Karin Kuschik
described her contribution: "I prefer to play a supportive role.
My main strength lies in moving things along to completion."
Kim Fischer is good at telling stories. The two talents truly complement
each other.
